Good choice of Chinese restaurant for the area but the ambiance is a bit different than what I’m used to. And the portions also seem to be smaller? It’s still a solid choice of restaurant though.
Kai Liana (makairatide) - in the last week
The pork chop, cauliflower, and the fried rice noodles are super super super salty.
The dim sum items are pretty good! And good thing is that many main dishes come with rice.
Service is below expectation. The waitress asked us once throughout the entire dining “how was everything”, but no response to our comment “these two dishes are too salty.”

Loved all the dishes and of course the favorite was the shrimp dim sum. It was super hot inside but service and food was good. Will come back again and refer others.

The shrimp, crab and spinach dumplings ($8.50) and the beancurd pork rolls ($9.00) were both excellent. The sautéed string beans ($11.95) was average. I personally prefer their Chinatown location (in terms of ambience and menu selection) but this one is pretty decent if you don’t want to trek down to Centre Street.

We looked for a good dim sum restaurant before going to the Natural History Museum and found one on Google. However, the food was not exceptional, and nothing really stood out. We have had better dim sum in other places. The service was decent, and so was the atmosphere.

The restaurant week $30 two-course lunch was quite good. The watermelon and pumpkin seeds added textural contrast to the gazpacho, while the avocado gave it some richness. The doubled dipped crispy chicken was served on a bed of cabbage salad. The amount of dressing was just right but it could have done away with the cornbread croutons as there were not crisp or but rather dry and crumbly. Price-wise this offer is almost getting the first course for free as most plates are around the $30.

Showing it's age... It might be Amazing for tourists, but the competition is stiff on the UWS. Everything is showing it's age at this point, and it's time for a refresh...
Service was Good - but not Excellent, Good was Good - but not Excellent and Atmosphere is a little less than good with chairs that are loose, dirt in the corners and the crevices.
It's time to close down for a week, clean up, shape up and start fresh. You guys are Better than this

Loved this place. Very cute, intimate, peaceful place with outstanding food! Michelle took great care of us. I especially enjoyed the lemon and herb braised chicken with fingerling potatotes from the Restaurant Week special menu. I hope that becomes a regular dish- so tender and the sauce was amazing! A new favorite place 😀

After a visit to the museum we stopped at this place for dinner because it looks nice from the outside.
Once inside, we started with some amazing cocktails. They also seemed popular at the bar, so an absolute recommendation here. For dinner we went for the fix menu. Everything was perfect and very delicious.
Too bad I don't live in New York or I would definitely be coming back to this place often

Very busy on Sunday morning and it will take some time for someone to serve you… but the food here is fantastic. I liked the crab guacamole salad so much. The smoked salmon Benedict is also so good.

Recommended for wings, sports and groups! This is a great local establishment, it is relaxed, tons of seating (with a backroom) and leaps of TVs to watch any game that's on (ask the friendly staff for your pick!). The wings continue to be crispy. The bucket of 50 you can split into 2 flavors, we did mild and medium, but so many more and spicy levels. We enjoyed the new fried cheese curds, omg the aioli sauce is the best, sweet potato fries, soft pretzels and chicken fingers. Enjoy, I always look forward to coming back here!!

Have been coming here 10+ years and the wings never disappoint. For wing lovers who want the full breakdown - always super crispy - not dry which is the most important. Great sauce to wing ratio and they’re fresh, never soggy. Dine in is always better than take out (this is a general rule for wings) and they have a large scale of heat levels to choose from. A bit pricey but worth it - the more you buy, the better the deal (ranges from 10-full buckets etc.
Otherwise - staff is friendly and the big scale sports games are usually on all the time, if not, there’s music playing. They have wing specials throughout the week and a pretty extensive menu outside of wings as well. You can sit at the bar or at tables, nothing fancy but that’s part of the charm.

From the moment I walked through the door, I was treated so fantastic by everyone who worked there. The host Jill made me feel welcome and special. I was able to watch the Mets and basketball at the same time. The place was totally packed, yet my waitress brought me a taste of an amazing ipa and the best wings in NYC. Stephanie and Chloe never let my beer go empty. Amazing experience in every way. Highly recommended.

Definitely a divey scene, but came in to watch a basketball game and there was a good crowd. Plus, if you are in search of the perfect Buffalo wings, I highly recommend this place. They were crispy without being dry, generously sauced, and great flavor wing sauce. 10/10 would come back for more

Great food. Vegetarian options. Good flavor. Loved the masala dosa. The paper one is so big !
But little burnt. There’s a bathroom. The space inside is nice. Close enough walk to metro and Central Park.
Wasn’t busy for lunch. The service is good. I liked everything. Would come back to this chain. Maybe just a bit pricey compared to other places.

The food is flavorful and has great heat (recommended only for those with a good tolerance for spice). The South Indian thali ($23.49 plus tax) made for a satisfying meal. Unfortunately the air conditioning is inadequate for peak summer conditions. And with ongoing construction indoors, you may be better off dining outside actually.

This was a 5-star vegetarian dining experience with excellent service. We dined at the Amsterdam Avenue location. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the serving sizes were just right. The dishes that were advertised as spicy were in fact spicy. Five-star reviews are rare but Saravanaa Bhavan is deserving. This place was recommended to us a by a food critic yet the google ratings average 4.2. We had more faith in the food critic and that faith paid off! For a party of 4, we ordered Vegetable Butter Masala, Palak Paneer, plantain bajji, paper masala dosa, bullet naan, garlic naan, bisibelabath, and two orders of mango lassi for a total of $108 without tip. Everything was delicious. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

We thoroughly enjoyed the diverse selection of dosas and the delicious tea at this eatery! The food truly stole the show, with each dosa variant offering a unique and flavorful experience.
However, the atmosphere fell short of expectations. The compact space had a slight lapse in cleanliness, with the bathroom and floors requiring more attention. Despite this, we remain hopeful that the establishment will prioritize tidiness and maintain a cleaner environment for future patrons.
Rating: 5 stars for food and service and 2 stars for atmosphere. We look forward to returning and enjoying another tasty meal in a cleaner setting!

I ordered an Uttapam, the taste wasn't that great compared to their outlets in other countries.
Their service was slow, I had to ask for every little thing from the water to the check.
The ambiance was underwhelming. The AC wasn't working and the washroom was also untidy.

Very busy, fairly unremarkable bar/restaurant that’s been around for many years. Decent drinks, beer and food. Bartenders not so communicative. Food was okay but not terrific. Three bathrooms, which was nice; no waiting. Asked to pay cash, but by the time I got back from the bathroom a different bartender had already swooped up and charged by credit card. Extra 3%. No big deal, but still…

My husband and I went off the tourist track and visited this bar today! Lovely chilled atmosphere! Server more than helpful and we can watch Liverpool game there on Sunday! Good selection of beers (husband expert level beer taster having had his own bar) had chicken wings and a lovely conversation with a library expert local who I assume is a regular … nice speaking to a New Yorker about all things American and British!
We had been looking for a nice local bar and this was definitely one we were pleased to go in!

Good food, not great service. The food was delicious. I had a New York Cheesesteak with peppers and onions. And the prices were very good for NY. It was a little busy but not packed, but it was difficult to get served, and I had to get my own silverware. I will probably come back again but was a little disappointed.

4/13/24 first time here. Cool bar vibe. Interesting beers on tap.
We had the pretzel 'filled with jalapeno cheese' but there was No hint of jalapeno.
So it's just cheese filled, good but smaller than we expected. Not like your traditional large hot pretzel.
We had the turkey Ruben, which was good.
Friendly service.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this place, and I must say, it was an experience to remember!
From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome and a delightful array of colorful, mouth-watering desserts. The menu was extensive, offering a variety of options from classic pastries to innovative creations, all vegan and Jain friendly.
I decided to try the vegan banana bread and macron and it was divine. The banana bread was moist and rich, perfectly balanced by the sweetness. It was clear that high-quality ingredients were used, and the skill and care put into baking it was evident in every bite.
Mini brownie was average but I plan to visit this place again.

Love this vegan cafe! The sautéed beech mushroom bowl and vanilla cake were super delicious! The fava bean + plant-based cutlet wasn’t the best, the cutlet was dry but the presentation was fun! I think it’s a little over priced in general but has some good items for sure

I grabbed take out. I have been here many times. Chickpea fries are the 💣 bomb. Com. I am trying not to be a fatty so I got that plus a salad. I'm very full. So I think I still over ate but it was delicious

Went here for lunch while visiting NYC recently. There were a lot of options for someone vegetarian and gluten free, but even more choice if you can eat gluten. There aren't many/any root vegetables on the menu but what is on the menu is really tasty. I had a brown rice bowl, my friend had the golden beet salad. Both were plenty of food for a lunch. The key lime pie was refreshing. We were able to sit outside, which made for good people watching.

We didn’t eat here but it was our local while we were staying in the UWS. Drinks were awesome. They played the US Open on the tv. Barman Louie was the best, took care of us both with beverages and moving on unwelcome attention. I hope he enjoyed the TimTams we left him. :)

It is one of my favorite bars in the upper west side. The happy hour and daily specials are unbeatable. The bartenders are very nice and great to talk to. The soundtrack however… is criminal. This community is mostly jews and senior citizens. None of which want to listen to doja cat sing profanities while sipping their $14 pitcher of kona big wave. A classic rock vibe would appeal to more folks and create a more relaxing atmosphere. Mazel tov!
Additionally, something most people don't think of but as a big sports enthusiast, I love watching games here. They always play the sound and have great timing to switch it back to music when the games are on commercial breaks. Although I don’t like the music, if they listen to this review and change the music, it would be a 10/10 bar.

We had an engagement party in the speakeasy room downstairs. The staff was simply fantastic and they hosted a wonderful party. Katelyn the bartender was quick and efficient and kept everyone happy, Lexi the server helped us get organized pre party and Tony (securiity) kept the room secure from passersby trying to crash. Highly recommend the Gin Mill for a party.

On a beautiful Tuesday night, I was looking for something to do in the city that never sleeps. After visiting 2 other bars that had rude or tired employees, we happened to find Jake's dilema. Immediately, we felt at ease, and Wade welcomed us and treated us like the happy celebratory humans we were. This was a beautiful way to discover a new place to hang out while in the city. I am hoping we can start an open mic night or something, so I will be coming back to speak to Wade and the manager about that. My only complaint is having to go down a flight of steps to get to the restroom. It's not fun when you're tipsy to have to go up two steps, down about 12 steps, and then down 2 more steps. Yes, I counted it was actually a running joke all night with us (though my count may be off, I was really tipsy at this point.) Overall, I really enjoyed this place, and it's all because of the bartender and how amazing he is. Thank you, Wade!!!

Had catering style food (warming trays of appetizers) in the private party room in the basement. Food was alright. Beer prices are nice for NYC. But having a private party bar in the basement with a personal bartender is awesome.

Very very delicious food. I’ve been eating here for over 5 years and still my favorite usual food in the neighborhood. Drunken noodles always spice me up , not only spicy but there’s also something about it I don’t know :) so good. My husband got Pad thai this time and we shared the fish. This place has such nice atmospher , not too hectic. Price is reasonable compared to most. 👍

The crispy calamari was an excellent appetizer ($15 plus tax). Land is one of a few places that offer a lunch special ($13.50) on weekends. I had the Land salad and the fried rice with tofu. Both were decent, though I did find the general flavor profile (the dressing for the salad, the actual fried rice itself, and the dipping sauce for the calamari) to be on the sweet side.
