Great vibes and music - we got lucky with the band that was playing that evening; different acts on different nights.
It was my first time having ratatouille and I was not disappointed at all - very tasty! The crab cake was perfect! The chocolate mousse dessert was delicious!
Drinks weren't too bad - I had the spicy margarita; not enough tajin around the rim for my liking.
Good for families, friends and significant others!

If you're looking for an unforgettable night out, Smoke jazz club is the place to be. The performance was top-notch, showcasing some of the finest talent in an intimate setting that brings the music to life. The service was exceptional—attentive without being intrusive.
What truly surprised us was the dinner. The dishes were not only beautifully presented but also bursting with flavor, elevating the entire experience. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic date, where you can enjoy great music, delicious food, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Very cool, small jazz club that had a very nice vibe. I was surprised at how amazing the filet minion tasted. It was soft, juicy, and tasted just wonderful. Typically, at jazz places, you don't expect a good steak, but here they made it like a real professional who knew how to cook a good steak. I have also tried wagu burger, which is also amazing. I Typically don't eat burgers, and I was shocked how good it was, too. The music band was great, I really loved the atmosphere and how they performed. Service was fast and pleasant as well.
I definitely recommend this place for jazz lovers!

Great date night location. Outstanding service and ambiance. The band was amazing. I didn't want the set to end. Eric Scott Reed is a true entertainer with meaningful stories to tell and original compositions that take listeners on a journey. What a night! ❤️

I came here for my birthday and I was absolutely blown away. The atmosphere was inviting and intimate, the service is top notch, and the food exceeded my expectations.
My Fiancé has celiac disease and our server, Jess, was extremely knowledgeable about what was gluten free or not. Jess gave us great suggestions for what to order, we got the the NY Strip Steak and the Montauk Striper-both were phenomenal. The steak was cooked a perfect medium with a delicious crust on the outside- I’ll definitely order this myself next time. The fish was a good sized portion, and the couscous was well balanced with a refreshing acidity to it. Unlike some other dinner + show establishments, the food here can hold its own. I will say it’s slightly on the pricier side but nothing unusual for NYC.
And of course the show! This place hosts some truly talented musicians. We were enamored by the music, it truly is a special experience. I would highly recommend this as a date or anniversary spot. Thanks again to Jess, who was a great server!

I’ve now been to both locations over the last 5 years. Several times. It’s been 50/50 with the good/bad experiences.
I’ve given up on this hype, though. Most of the dishes are average to good, on their best days. On their off days, they can be average to poor. But, when you’re spending close to or over $50 on two dishes, it’s a dealbreaker.
Eating here is part of the experience. I have yet to do so there’s a chance it could be better than takeout? Not for me though.

TLDR: If you've never had Chino Latino - you're depriving yourself of some crazy good stuff. Large portions, even larger flavors. Broiled pork chop, lomo saltado, squid ink fried rice, seco de res. You're welcome.
I've been eating at the Amsterdam location for years but recently I've been coming to this one. It's a family run spot with a full Chino Latino menu. Think a collision of Chinese and Peruvian/Spanish. They've got some straight up Spanish things, totally Chinese and in between.
For starters, definitely try the papa arequipena. It's a Peruvian potato either cold or fried with this red pepper sauce and hard boiled eggs and olives. It's a very unique flavor. If you're there on the weekends, grab the shrimp stew. It's an ultra tasty shrimp soup with rice, corn, a bit of spice.
The broiled pork chops are probably my favorite pork chops anywhere. They're brined incredibly well are dotted with chopped garlic that caramelizes under the flame. It's so insanely juicy.
Squid ink fried rice is a must. It's a squid ink coated fried rice with ham, shrimp, pease and a unique ginger flavor. The lomo saltado you definitely need to get. Sliced steak in a stir-fried sauce with onions, tomato and french fries on top of rice.
The other items I'd recommend are the seco de res, a cilantro-centric tender beef stew. The tallarin verde is a Peruvianish pesto pasta, it's great with the garlic shrimp.
No matter how much good stuff I've eaten, Flor de Mayo is in my list of restaurants I love going to and bringing visitors to. It's something that's tough to find but it's a testament to the melting pot that NYC is.

I recently dined at Flor de Mayo, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the tone for a fantastic evening. The service was top-notch—attentive, friendly, and truly accommodating. The staff made us feel welcomed and ensured that our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable from start to finish.
The food was absolutely incredible, showcasing the rich and flavorful fusion of Peruvian and Chinese cuisine that Flor de Mayo is known for. We ordered the Lomo Salteado, which was a standout dish. The beef was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The mix of spices, fresh vegetables, and savory sauce created a perfect balance that made each bite better than the last. The dish was beautifully presented, and the portion size was generous, leaving us completely satisfied.
The drinks were another highlight of the evening. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic cocktail or something more adventurous, the bar at Flor de Mayo does not disappoint. The cocktails were expertly crafted, with just the right blend of flavors to complement the meal. They added a nice touch to the overall dining experience.
Overall, Flor de Mayo exceeded all expectations. The combination of amazing food, outstanding service, and delicious drinks made for an unforgettable night. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a casual dinner or celebrate a special occasion, Flor de Mayo is the place to be. We can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu!

My first time trying Ethiopian. Food was amazing especially the red lentils. Meat was so so . I had beg tibs
Would surely come back again here. Service needs to be more attentive

Awash was recommended by my Ethiopian friend as the best place to try their food. The welcome was warm and the service was friendly. We were five and initially wanted to order samplers with other items from the menu but the food sharing fee is a very unusual and alogical rule and we had to change our mind. Finally, we ordered individually different food from the menu. I tried beef and lentil Sambusa and beef Siga Tibs. The food was delicious, I really enjoyed Sambusa.
Overall, we enjoyed the evening but considering numerous factors we decided that it was worth trying but doubt to return shortly.

Loved loved this place. It was my first time getting Ethiopian food and I thought it was amazing. Got the veggie platter and the spices/seasoning was soo good. The combo together was delicious- really loved the beets complementing the chickpea mix. Everything was wrapped in a type of bread/wrap which has a kind of grainy texture but is very complementary. Got this for take out and 100% would get again. Large portion as we had it for 2 meals.

Drinks were pretty good and a fantastic happy hour deal. French onion soup was so great. But beware the “Burrata et avocado salad” for it is literally just 3 slices of avocado, 3 slivers of tomato, and 3 individual roasted garlic cloves. Not what we were expecting for something called a salad. An important heads up if you’re planing to go for happy hour: you can *only* sit in this one designated roped-off section with wobbly high top table and stools, directly underneath a large TV, right beside the front entrance. Even if you order a main dish from the main menu instead of the Happy Hour menu, even if the rest of the normal table are empty, they will not let you sit outside that section.

The rumors are true: best HH in the neighborhood. It’s not even debatable.
The food is solid. Items that are on replay: sardines, any of the muscles, the burger, calamari… there’s more, but the martinis have my memory pause.
Adult beverages are solid, especially the martinis @ HH. It’s the truth, baby Ruth.
Desserts are mid. Eat another appetizer, instead. Life is too short for mid food and your stomach is too small, choose wisely.

Went there for Mother’s Day brunch with our little one in a stroller. We had a reservation and did not have to wait. They were very accommodating; they went above and beyond to find us a table that would allow us to sit next to our baby in the stroller. The food and service were great. I had the croque madame and my spouse had the classique Benedict. We also split a creme brulee. We also had a few cocktails and they were all great. The prices were also very reasonable! Would definitely recommend

Very good pizza! They have a lot of flavors and the people there are very nice! The space, even though is a little small, is nice and clean!

I'm originally from NY, but have moved to NC. I came back for my grandson, who had heart surgery across the street and was hoping for some really good pizza. This place didn't disappoint - it was really good!
What I do have a problem with is bait and switch. Online prices are given, and when you walk in, the prices above, on the board match. I ordered, and what should have been $12+tax, turned out to be $18+tax. When I asked the girl at the register who, "only works here", she added that the actual prices are in their take away menu stacked on the counter. She also added that it was brought up weeks ago by another customer, and it's up to the owners to change the pricing and address the issue, not her.
I have no problem with paying for anything that is clearly stated by the establishment whatever it is that they charge. As a consumer, we make choices based on how much, and do we want it? There are hundreds of pizza places - WHY NOT be diligent and up front with your customers? It's deception and poor business.
Pizza, good.
Pizzeria and customer service, not so good.
If ever back in the city, I'll spend my hard earned money on another place that has more integrity and honesty.
☆And, girl at the register, MAYBE suggest patrons look at the actual menu on the counter that's next to the register, with current pricing, and not at the above the counter and online pricing.
You work there, do your job!

I selected one square cut and one traditional slice. The pizza was just ok. Crust was good and baked well, it’s the sauce! It’s weak. Not very flavorful! Add some marinara to help and more parimson cheese

Sal and Carmine’s on the Upper West Side is a true gem for pizza lovers! I ordered a pepperoni and sausage pizza, and it was absolutely delicious. The pizza was generously topped with a rich, flavorful sauce that perfectly complemented the savory toppings. The crust had just the right amount of crispiness—light and airy but still with that satisfying crunch. What makes this place even better are the fair prices, especially for the PIZZA SIZE you’re getting. If you’re in the neighborhood and craving an authentic New York slice, Sal and Carmine’s is definitely worth a visit!
Also! The place boasts a huge interior space and a lot of seating too!

Sal & Carmine Pizza always hits the spot! To me, their pizza is underrated (which I don't mind because that means fewer people haha). Compared to all of the pizzerias in the neighborhood that sell *street pizza* they have the best. The sauce is a perfect balance of sweetness with savory. You can tell that they use fresh mozzarella. The crust is not too thick and not too thin either. If you want that crunch, ask them to heat your slice for a bit longer than usual. My bf and I always stop by to chat with the pizza maker and cashier. Both are great guys. We've never had a bad experience or a bad slice/pie. If you're in the neighborhood, definitely stop by to get a slice. You won't regret it. P.S. They're selling icees for a dollar (2 big scoops) you can't beat that deal, especially with this heat.
Julie V - 5 months ago
My first attempt eating Sal & Carmine’s wasn’t great. But always give a second try, as everyone has an off night. Sadly worse than the first
Just picked up a pie. Definitely a reheat as the pepperoni are uncooked and basically sitting on top of the pizza
Dough super soft but not in a good way
Don’t see any reason for a third try
Bummer as I recently moved nearby
Attempted to call and share this feedback privately but phone is constantly busy

One of the few times I give 5 stars. Aside from price, the place was like perfect. The servers, serve in a way that is there but also non invasive. The atmosphere is clean, on theme, and we'll lit for a nice mood. And the food... well is like premium/quality Thai.
I had an aversion from a previous experience with Thai in another restaurant and this place helped me get over it.
I ordered the panang curry which they easily and without hassle substituted the meat with salmon. And it was beautifully plated, the salmon was perfectly cooked tender and flaky, flavor on point, and just ask around perfection. I also ordered a pomegranate ginger ale and it was alright. Not that good. Too much sugar but the curry was bomb.
Tried my friend's curry as well and it also slapped. So good!

BEST thai restaurant I have ever been to in America simply phenomenal in my opinion. The duck was outstanding and even with all the the sauce it was so crispy and melted in your mouth the meat was so tender and the curry sauce was so creamy.
The appetizer was also really good and the filling was very tender and juicy. The GPKD was also great and spicy however quite salty. Highly recommend.

I first visited this restaurant in 2007 when it was named Indus Valley. I hadn't been back to Manhattan until just this past Friday. After 17 years, the only restaurant I wanted to back to was this one. I have tried Tandoori Chicken in so many restaurants all over the US and none compare to Manhattan Valley's. 17 years later, it was just as good as it was all those years ago. It won't be 17 years until I have it again!

Classic old school New York diner in the heart of the Upper West Side. If you’re looking for that real diner feel this is the place to go. Booths with mid century modern and vinyl coverings, Formica or faux-woodtop tables. Everybody enjoyed their food which included banana pancakes (a big hit), waffles with strawberries, chicken tenders, a salad, and the veggie burger. There are not many choices here for vegans (hence the four stars) but the veggie burger was decent, though it came dry with neither lettuce nor tomato. Coffee was hot and service was fast and friendly. Prices seemed a touch on the high side but if you want a diner with all the traditional diner fare this is a great choice.

Whenever I travel to America I have to visit a traditional diner - this is my ‘go to’ on visits to New York and one of my all time favourites- the food is totally unpretentious, traditional and fabulously delicious. It maybe a little off the beaten track for most visitors to the city but it is 100% worth a visit - you will not be disappointed.

This is an odd one. Food is great, it has that old school diner vibe, but I think we were a bit unlucky with our waiter. He really didn’t want to be there and was more interested in his colleagues than his customers. Too bad, because the pancakes were perfect and the front of the house were very friendly.
