Lively on a Saturday night. The place was pretty full, mostly larger groups, but still some empty tables. We waited 45 mins for our food and when the server finally brought out one of our entrees, steak fries, she mentioned she hopes we don't mind she's bringing it out before the other dishes, but it was sitting under the lamps and she wanted to get it out. Not what we wanted to hear. The other food ordered was only cesar salad, French onion soup and shrimp bang bang. It shouldn't have taken that long. Cesar salad had no flavour, nothing, no taste at all. It was bizarre. Soup was ok. I had been waiting to try it in Montreal and now wouldn't have it again. Bang bang shrimp was ok. Very small portion, even tho it's an appetizer. Steak frites was ok. Medium rare in middle only but over cooked around all around. I'm a French fry fan, but I have never had fries so horrible in my life. All you can eat fries? No thanks, couldn't even eat the ones on my plate.

Had a meal with a group of 25 and the staff were completely on the ball the entire time, even when splitting the bill!! Great food and service.

We were in the mood for “real” food since we had been eating street food. Were greeted and told they didn’t serve alcohol and that we were allowed to bring our own in. We thought that was cool! The food was really good, we had flank steak, steak frites, and ribeye steak.

Before I start this review, I want to acknowledge something: it takes a lot of work to run a restaurant. I wouldn’t know this personally, as I am just someone who loves food experiences, but I respect the effort.
Food is an art form that, at its highest moments, tells a story. The best restaurants weave this story seamlessly, from the moment you are greeted by the maître d’ to the time you sign the check. The food should justify its place on the plate, the art should be meaningful, and the ambiance should tie it all together, saying, “Thank you for choosing us. Here’s why it matters.”
Unfortunately, Toque’s story was incoherent, like the ramblings of someone lost in a drunken stupor, clinging to a reality that exists only in their head.
Upon entering, the décor felt like a relic of the early 2000s—a carpeted (why carpet?) time capsule. It reminded me of someone who over-prepped for Y2K, only to be left with stacks of toilet paper in their closet.
My spouse and I were there to celebrate a special occasion. Having dined at similar establishments in New York, we were excited to see what Toque would deliver as a supposed bastion of fine cuisine.
THE BREAD
The bread was one of the only highlights—a mix of sourdough with a chewy crust and impossibly soft interior, paired with butter that could have sparked wars in earlier centuries. 9/10.
THE TRAGEDY
The rest of the meal spiraled into chaos, beginning with an amuse-bouche. The server offered a “surprise” or foie gras, and we opted for the surprise, only to receive lobster in a buckwheat shell—despite my well-communicated shellfish allergy. After a brief “oh…sorry,” they replaced it with hastily thrown-together tuna salad. No apology beyond that, not even a simple glass of champagne to acknowledge the mistake.
Here’s the breakdown of the courses:
1. First Course: Trout ceviche in cold miso soup. A confusing pairing that felt random rather than intentional. (4/10)
2. Second Course: Trout (again), with beurre blanc, walnuts, and trout roe. Not terrible, but shockingly underseasoned—I had to request salt. (5/10)
3. Third Course: Walleye from Lake Erie with black garlic sauce, confit pear, and pickled radishes. Fish was fine, pear was great, sauce needed salt. (5/10)
4. Fourth Course: Young rooster with vegetables. Chicken on a tasting menu needs to be magical, but this was bland beyond forgiveness. (3/10)
5. Fifth Course: Sirloin the size of my index finger (and I’m not a large person), served lukewarm with yet another forgettable sauce. (2/10)
6. Sixth Course: The pre-dessert “surprise” was purple ube ice cream, poppyseed cake, and chocolate in a pool of Minute Maid lemonade. It was shocking, in the worst way. The cheese dish—a brie with spelt cracker—was utterly forgettable. (1/10)
THE DESSERT FROM HEAVEN
The seventh and final course was miraculous: a white chocolate mousse with soaked pear, chocolate bark, and citron sorbet. It was thoughtful, balanced, and decadent, erasing—almost—the disaster of previous courses.
If the rest of the meal had been even a fraction as inspired as this dessert, Toque might have redeemed itself. But one great dish cannot carry a meal that failed at nearly every other step.
WHAT MORE?
The service lacked the attentiveness expected at this level. The manager’s “gift” for our celebration—a stock card signed by the chef—felt hollow. No creative dessert, no thoughtful keepsake menu, just an afterthought. The inconsistent music—alternating between too loud and imperceptibly soft—only added to the disjointed experience.
And so, we left wondering what story Toque was trying to tell. In the end, we had to make up one ourselves: Toque is an establishment so convinced of its greatness, it doesn’t feel the need to explain why its food matters. Instead, it says, “We thought of this yesterday—eat it and go.”
Overall Rating: 2/10.
The bread and dessert were phenomenal, but I would have been happier at a bakery with a pint of Häagen-Dazs. After all, man cannot live on bread alone.

We ordered the seven-course Tasting Menu with wine pairing. The service was very slow making the dinner last 4-hours. Our server, Eve, spent most of her time re-filling our water glasses. The venue was a bit dated. Finally, the design of the coffee cup with no handle, delivered at the end of the meal, was just plain silly.

Toqué is renowned as one of Canada's top restaurants, and for good reason. The chic ambiance, the impeccable service, and the exquisitely sublime food all play in harmony for a superlative experience.
We opted for the 7 course tasting menu paired with 5 remarkable wines. An extravagant spread gifted for our anniversary. Pricing is not for the faint of heart. If your wallet permits, then by all means, indulge!

Had the tasting menu here, the meal started off strong with the amuse bouche and ended off really well with the cheese dish and the dessert but everything else was nothing special.... the rest of the dishes didn't leave a memorable impression and our party was left feeling quite disappointed. We had high expectations from this highly rated restaurant, but I probably wouldn't come back. As far as high end restaurants go.... 3.7/5

Perfect experience! Great restaurant for any type of occasion.
Every dish we had was full of flavour and the products used felt very fresh and were of great quality. I wish we had more room in our stomach to try others dishes (the portions are also generous!!).
As for the service, everyone who catered to us was excellent. Special thank you to Valérie for making my mom’s birthday special.

Not quite what it was before moving but still worthy. Amazing food and service, this place is hard to beat. Of course, such an experience has its price. Don’t look at the bill, just pay it. One of the best place in the world for a rib steak and a lot more choices. We were two persons, had martini, rib steak, mille-feuilles and a moderately priced bottle of red wine, its costed us close to $500 with taxes and tip. Not for the poor one. An experience you’ll remember forever.

This is a very interesting restaurant. My wife and I went here twice when visiting Montreal. The steaks are great and the side dishes are also super tasty.
Unfortunately, the second time we went here, the beef tartare tasted completely different: it was suddenly super spicy. This was two day after visiting for the first time, so this points towards a lack of consistency and quality control in the kitchen.
Also, on our second visit, I ordered the Kansas Strip. I talked with the waiter about it before ordering and when it appeared, I was dismayed to see that it had a big bone in it.
However, when it comes to drinks, the people working here are top notch! I had a great conversation with Max about a White Russian — a fairly boring drink, unless you take steps to elevate it. Max created a beautiful White Russian for me and this made a perfect end to my visit in Montreal.

I haven't been to Moishes since they were at their old location, and they are still outstanding in all categories.
Their level of service is legendary, as how the host welcomes you into the restaurant and how your servers are ready to help in every way possible with the menu—refilling your water at every chance.
Every dish of food is delicious. We started with the Rockefeller oysters and beef tartar. We both had the filet mignon for our mains and asparagus and Monte Carlo potatoes as sides. We had two nonalcohols, which were surprisingly like sour candy.
My partner didn't want to pick up a dessert that night, but I will have to take them back to try many of the superb options Moishes offer.
We were celebrating our 11th anniversary, and Moishes made it a special one. We are looking forward to making many more beautiful memories there in the coming future.

Once in a while you stumble upon a very good restaurant when you least expected. We’ve been habing coffee in an Italian coffee shop across Moishe and saw this restaurant thibking we should visit since the terrace looks very nice. It did not dissapoint.
We had great dinner on our last night in Montreal before headed home and super happy that we chose Moishe.
Service is excellent from areival to departure, staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgable of their product.
Def one of the best of Montreal.
I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great meals with family or loved ones.

Five Guys serves an okay burger and fries as far as fast food goes, but all the hype seems somewhat overrated. I like that they offer free peanuts, but the service is nothing special.
Jeremiah Hayes - 2 months ago
I got the small cheeseburger (1 patty instead of 2, that's the difference between the regular and small cheeseburger) and it was very satisfying!
I said I was going to eat indoors, but they still gave me a brown to go bag and no tray. So I ended up eating right outside on a bench instead.
It was my first time at the Five Guys so I'm not sure if it's all the time served in to-go bags, or if it's because I went a little late, around 8:30pm.

My recent visit to Five Guys McGill Street left me with mixed feelings! 🍔🍟🥤 The highlight of the meal was their delightful fries and lip-smacking milkshakes, which truly lived up to the restaurant's reputation. However, I have to say that the veggie burger I ordered was quite underwhelming. 😕
Let's start with the positives—the fries were outstanding! 🍟 Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, they were the perfect sidekick to our meal. And oh, those milkshakes! 🥤🤤 Creamy, rich, and full of flavor, they were simply divine. Five Guys definitely knows how to create mouthwatering sides and treats!
Now, onto the not-so-great parts. My friend and I were taken aback by the prices. 💸 While we expected to pay a bit more for quality, we both felt that it was a tad too expensive for a casual burger joint. The veggie burger, unfortunately, was the biggest disappointment. 😔 It lacked the bold flavors we were hoping for and turned out to be quite bland.
One thing I have to mention is the A1 sauce, and it's a big no-no. 🚫 We decided to try it, thinking it would add some zing to the burger, but it was far from enjoyable. The taste was off, and it didn't complement the meal at all.
On a positive note, the restaurant's atmosphere was inviting with an American-style burger joint vibe. 🍔🇺🇸 The ambiance was lively, and the staff was friendly and efficient, making the dining experience pleasant overall.
While the quality of the ingredients used in the burgers was good, I couldn't help but feel that the overall pricing didn't quite match what was offered. It's essential to strike a balance between taste, portion sizes, and pricing, which, in this case, seemed a bit skewed.
Five Guys McGill Street excels in certain aspects, such as their delicious fries and mouthwatering milkshakes, as well as providing a vibrant and upbeat atmosphere. However, the veggie burger's lackluster flavor and the higher price point were notable downsides. For those who crave a true American-style burger experience, it might still be worth a visit, but for me and my friend, we left feeling slightly underwhelmed. 🤷♂️🤷♀️

I had a craving for a good old fashion burger. This is exactly what you are gonna find at Five Guys.
Their burgers taste like a real homemade burger with simple ingredients.
It is not healthy foood, its all comfort food. Their fries are delicious, probably one of the best fast food fries available.
The milkshake is good and thick, you can customize it with many different topping at no extra cost.

It’s a good concept for a balanced and affordable lunch. Food was ok, it gets crowded but still able to find a seat.
My issue is with the cashier. Something that can be so straightforward but a big fuss was made and it’s humiliating. After paying at the woman cashier, I proceeded to bring my food back to my seat. When I went to pick up the cutlery, she accused me of not paying JUST after she took my payment. It was audible enough to get looks from people. When I produced the receipt to her that I had on hand, she further insisted that that doesn’t count as payment (?!?) and insisted to see the credit card receipt. Fortunately for this case I took it, because most of the time who would keep that slip? Only upon producing that would she back down.
I can’t help if one is forgetful after taking my payment, but the humiliation and to single me out is unacceptable.

Enjoy steak and free beer every Friday for only 16$ all in. This was before the pandemic.

But the price has not changed much since. Now, it's only 16.50$+tx for the same filet mignon and beer included.
Please don't forget to add a tip$: think about people who clean your table, dishes and to keep this place nice and clean.
Need an ice cream cone?

Now is 23$+ for the same steak.

Friday evening between 4 and 5 pm, there is practically no one. The ambiance was pretty fun. Cool music playing, lights are dimmed. It's really cozy. I went with my 12 year old daughter. She really enjoyed it. We only took appetizers, and it was plenty for us. The dumplings tasting platter is so delicious. The calmar and the tempura shrimp were really good, too. Rania was an amazing waitress. She was really attentive and very helpful.

Tastefully decorated and interesting menu to choose from . We were served by the kind and attentionnés Rémy from Montpellier France. We arrived late after a Christmas concert and they graciously attended to us . Although we very much loved the food , it was not served hot enough . We had them reheat everything . The rice was cold . With rapid reactions , we got our food back quickly reheated . That was my only complaint . Please serve all food hot ! The flavors were lovely and the best general Tao with a light breading so you actually eat chicken not fried breading for a change from most other restaurants . The beef was tender, the steamed dumplings ,made in house and delicious . Their dim sum sauce is really good. Thai coconut and Tom yum soup great . I would choose a different rice , it is hard and ruins the quality of the rest . We ate a black sesame ice cream which I’ve never experienced before . Original and I really liked it . We will be back sometime but please improve the rice and your wine list . A good Chardonnay is welcomed . The same was very good as well.

It’s a nice restaurant with good quality food and nice and friendly staff. I really liked the vibe as everyone was here on a business lunch.
I sat at the bar and ordered “Salmon Tartar” with Garden Salad. They accommodated all my food allergies as well. My food was fresh and very tasty.

Food is overpriced and just not that great. The only thing we liked was the salmon tartar that was really good but everything else is subpar for the price you pay.
The fried calamari was not super well cooked and the batter was not crispy at all
The wonton soup was a bit too salty
The dumpling skin was really thick
The general Tao was wayyy too sweet and the peanut butter chicken wok was also extremely sweet.
The service was good.

Had a simple tuna wrap with swiss cheese, which was exactly what I needed. Quick friendly service who catered to our English speaking crowd with polite kindness.
The beet side salad was equally welcome, and a small portion with the wrap was just the right amount!

Glad we could try this place when in town and certainly didn’t disappoint. Amazing soups on a rainy day ❤️ and we were accommodated despite not having a reservation. Highly recommended wonton soup, friend calamari and seafood noodles. General Tso chicken even though was the most recommended dish, it wasn’t to our liking. Service was above and beyond, very attentive and personable!

Most of the food was really really good. I loved the Mongolian beef, the sauteed mixed vegetables, the pan-fried noodles with chicken and vegetable and the general tao (although very spicy). The general tao was actual thick pieces of chicken and the breading was crispy and not too thick. The Mongolian beef is not like PF Chang's Mongolian beef, but it's sauteed thin strips of beef with vegetables in a savory sauce. The meat quality was very good and the beef was tender and not at all tough. It was my favorite. The vegetables were crisp and tasty with a great variety (carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, baby bok choy, Chinese cauliflower, green beans and lotus root). The pan- fried noodles with chicken and vegetables had crispy noodles on top (like Chow mein) and they were still crispy when I got home even after driving 20+ min. Underneath was thinly cut bites of chicken and vegetables (the same as in the sauteed vegetables). The peanut butter dumplings were very small and a bit salty. The sauce portion was generous and it was topped with green onions. My 11 y/o son loved them, but they were just ok in my opinion. The shrimp toast was good, my husband loved it. It comes with a sweet dipping sauce. None of our dishes came with rice because we didn't order any combos, so we just made rice at home.
The people who work there seem very kind, friendly and helpful. I placed the call by phone for pickup and the gentleman on the line was nice and patient and the woman who served me when I picked up the order helped me open the door and made sure I was able to carry the bag to my car.
The only negative was that it was pretty expensive for the portion size. It cost more than my usual go-to Chinese restaurant and there's less food, but I'd still go again because the food is so good. There was also lots of paid street parking right near the restaurant. Even though it's downtown, it's on a road with mild traffic.
Positives:
Delicious food
Fresh ingredients with lots of vegetables and good quality meat
Friendly staff
Ample street parking although downtown
Negatives:
Cost
Smaller portions

Im gobsmacked by these negative reviews! We have been to this restaurant 3 times. Each time we were greeted by the hostess with warmth and welcome. The service was impeccable and each dish was perfection. Each server was polished and polite. Perhaps these negative reviews are simply an indication of people’s sorry state of mind. I’d like to think so!

Dinner for 4: The food was not fresh... 3 plates out of 4 were returned because one plate was overcooked, another undercooked with the wrong steak requested, and the fish smelled very bad and tasted funny. They ended up replacing the fish plate with a salmon plate, which was much better. The other two steaks were replaced without a problem.
The waitress's service was super nice. I have nothing to say about that. We took two bottles of red wine for our meals and both bottles were very cold. Red wine shouldn't be that cold... it spoils the taste. Will not be going again.

It was a good experience overall. Service, food, and drinks. It's a nice place to go to for special occasions. I highly recommend the Poseidon's Tower (seafood mix). The half portion easily covers 3 folks.

Nice restaurant that I thought was in the Fairmont hotel but actually right next to it. I had the Walleye filet fish which was very flavorful along with the rice and veggies. My friend had the salmon that looked delicious as well and his plate was empty afterwards. The staff was nice but I felt like our waiter didn't introduce himself to us. It was my birthday which i noted on the reservation, but not acknowledged in any way. Tasty bread and drinks.

The bone-in rib cap steak is a unique find at steakhouses. It was delicious and fired beautifully. I enjoyed with the seasonal vegetables and cocktail while seated at the bar. I recommend and will return to try other menu items.

It’s one of the most fresh and delightful Japanese dishes I have ever tasted. Not only it’s authentic, the food is well matched with each other. Will definitely come back again.

A great sushi restaurant in downtown Montreal. Lunch Tuesday to Thursday, dinner Tuesday to Saturday. Please note they’ll be closed for lunch from July 30 until mid August.

I discovered this sushi place by recommendation.
It was worth the try. We ordered the Nigiri Omakaze, and the chef prepared us freshly prepared Nigiri and some personalized ones not from the menu. They were some of the best that I've tasted in Montreal.
We really enjoyed this experience, and we'll definitely come back!

We went to Saiko Bistrot on a tuesday night for my boyfriend's 25th birthday. He ordered the nigiri omakase and I ordered the complete omakase, which includes the 10 nigiri, 2 entrées, a soup and a piece of cake, and we shared everything.
Warning : the prices that are displayed on the restaurant webpage are from 2020 and are not up to date. We payed 80$ for the nigiri omakase and 150$ for the complete one, which is twice the price from 2020.
Apart from the surprise of the price, the food was really worth it. Every ingredient is sooo tasteful and selected with care by the chef. We sat by the bar, and the chef prepared each piece in front of us, asking us what we preferred and adapting depending on our answers. I'm not usually too much into japanese food, but this was incredible.
Our entrées were 8 pieces of sashimi (salmon, tuna and scallop), followed by 3 pieces of grilled scallops with crab, that had such a nice crisp to them. The soup was served with 4 makis and it was delicious. Then, the 10 nigiri were delicious : we had salmon, yellow tail tuna, shrimp, wagyu beef, eel... And finally, for the dessert, we chose a yuzu cheesecake that was very good, even if the slice was thin.
Worth noting that the restaurant closes at 9, and the omakase takes quite some time : we got there at 7, and finished eating at 9:15, rushing a little through the end.
To sum up, it is quite expensive, but I've never been so happy to spend this amount of money on a restaurant, it is very worth it.
