The best Italian restaurant in Berlin! Great place with a comforting terrace and excellent food. The quality of the food is supreme and waiters Walter and Monica gave us an amazing service and awesome recomendations. We will come back the next time we visit Berlin! Gracie mille!!

Sale e Tabacchi is a long-running Italian restaurant nestled in Mitte that exudes its own cozy charm, complete with high ceilings that add to its inviting atmosphere. The food here is authentic and decent, offering a taste of Italy right in the heart of Berlin. One of the highlights for me was discovering that they also serve Bellinis, adding a touch of elegance to the dining experience.

Overall a solid 4 stars, most of the dishes were good although a bit pricey. However, none of the dishes was extraordinary. The restaurant has an old fashion design, the tables are very close to each other and yhe acoustic is not great. Service was ok. Almost no vegan options.

Prices are high. Service are very great. Food is also good. We got our appetizer and drinks very fast. One thing I really didn’t like is that there was no music in the restaurant. At all. When we came it was empty and service was running with the tables around us and making a lot of noise in completely quiet place. Then came a lot of people and restaurant was full. But still no music at the background. Tables are very close to each others. So you can hear everyone’s talk…The interior is old fashion. So in general atmosphere was not that pleasant.

We are talking real Italian business here. I love it. Fullfilled my expectations, I was studying it for a while before making my reservation. I tried once before, it was full. Last night, with a spontaneous call a table was available. Fresh food 🐙, great cooking and very comfortable atmosphere. Grazie mille 👌🏽

A little disappointed to be honest. There was no clear restaurant manager taking charge of the dining room. The restaurant lacked service and direction from the staff. We got the sense the staff were cold towards each other and didn’t want to be there. There was clearly too many staff working for the amount of customers, so it was awkward seeing them trying to stay busy but at the same time not actually doing anything…It was very bizarre. The vegan menu was ok at best. The standout dish was the carrot with wasabi and also the planted steak. I’d recommend swapping the planted chicken with something else if you have the option, it was a bit dry. Overall, the chefs are clearly talented but the experience was underwhelming due to the staffing issues.

Our experience started great, starters very very cool, great presentation and amazing tastes. Unfortunately, along the way, especially with the main dishes all of us felt that it was overly salty (2 people had koi menu and 2 people kolibri) and this really impacted our experience. Petite fours were unfortunately big disappointment as well.
Service was fine but lacked attentiveness and not what I would have expected from 2 michelin stars service.
I would certainly be curious to come for a different menu in the future

What a wonderful evening, Dinner on a Saturday.
Starting by entering the interesting location where all the staff great one, one is placed at the table, an appetitive (choice of champagne) is offered and then the culinary experience may start. With a choice of 2 main and a vegan menu, one is also able to add or subtract dishes with tim raue’s classics which I did. A delightful chain of sophisticated courses followed, each with a unique taste and a palette very close to my personal one. Tim Raue has created a unique menu which is close to his personality and experience which brings an enjoyable and tasty experience. Highlight was the duck course and the personal welcomes by Mr. Raue himself, I was told that nowadays he is rarely on the restaurant on Saturday dinners which made the evening even more
memorable.
Compliments to the service team for an excellent service delivery, one could notice the excellent protocol and touch of personality of each staff member, especially Cecile who guided with a pleasant, comfortable and close touch my journey.
Will I come again: Yes!!!
Do I recommend this place? Yes!!

I really cannot see how this place is ranked so high. While innovation in cooking is always welcome, my experience was less about culinary excellence and more about an overwhelming clash of flavors.
The ambiance of the restaurant was indeed impressive, with a meticulously designed interior that promised a memorable dining experience. However, the promise of the decor was not matched by the food. The primary issue was the unbalanced and overpowering nature of the flavors. Each dish seemed to compete for attention with an excess of spices and seasoning, overshadowing the natural tastes and textures of the ingredients.
It was evident that the chef was aiming for surprise and novelty, perhaps to cater to those unfamiliar with the nuances of Asian flavors. However, for someone who appreciates the subtlety and complexity of traditional Asian cuisine, the dishes felt overdone and lacking in harmony.
The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who were knowledgeable about the menu. However, the focus on creating 'unexpected flavors' rather than harmonious and balanced dishes was a letdown.
This restaurant might appeal to those seeking a novel culinary experience, but for connoisseurs of traditional Asian flavors, it might come across as trying too hard to impress.

Our visit to Tim Raue Restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. With a five-course tasting menu that was nearly perfect. Maybe less precised compared to Jan Hartwig, but the experience left us thoroughly impressed.
The culinary prowess was evident in the impeccable balance of flavors, expertly managed salt levels, and the display of high-quality techniques, all beautifully presented through the artful plating. The incorporation of an Asian twist added a unique and delightful dimension to the overall dining experience.
With an overall amazing lunch that surpassed expectations, I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. For those seeking an extraordinary dining adventure, this place is a must-visit.

A good French restaurant that we visited twice. The food was good and the services were excellent! It gave a good French feel. The first time we went there without booking. We sat in the most inner section of the restaurant. It was hot (high 20C) and there was no air condition. When the other guests left, the atmosphere became cold. We reserved a table for the second time. We sat in the front section and the atmosphere was excellent. The waiters were very friendly and attentive. Recommended!

A nice dinner with family. Great service, nice ambience and wonderful food. They recommended beef, but we had the chance to try fish and it was well done

Summary: excellent meat quality of the perfectly seasoned entrecôte with excellent service in a nice French brasserie ambience
Best dish: entrecôte with vegetables and Pommes allumettes
Dishes (- negative / = ok / + positive):
+ entrecôte with vegetables and Pommes allumettes for €33
+ perfectly seasoned entrecôte. Great meat quality: very tender and juicy, with nice tender pieces of fat; only negative I ordered it rare and this was on the edge, more medium to medium-rare
+ well-seasoned vegetables with a nice bite
+ crispy and very tasty Pommes allumettes (very thin French fries); I opted for this side instead of the gratin
+ complementary French baguettes
Service:
+ very attentive
+ very friendly French waiter
Price:
+ somewhat high price for great value, but I’m more than happy to spend on an excellent experience and high quality food
Atmosphere:
+ nice French background music
+ nice French brasserie atomosphere
= upscale for business meetings or a nice dinner out with friends
My rating system - I focus on the food first and foremost. I aim to be truthful and try not to be biased by friendly service or other circumstances.
5*: excellent - I am rigorous in handing out 5* ratings
4*: good
3*: ok

Great experience from the minute we entered to the end of our dinner. Sweet and efficient service without being intrusive, awesome food and wine selection. We tried black angus chateaubriand, chicken, foie gras and oysters, everything tasted like a great home cooked meal: fresh, juicy, no excessive heaviness, just perfect. Price/quality absolutely justified. There’s also a huge dessert menu but I didn’t make it that far this time. I also found the lightning and the atmosphere very pleasant, will definitely be back!

The food at this place was great. We had the combo dinner (lomo) and a wine pairing. The steak was perfectly cooked and the side dishes and starters were very nice. Only the desert was a bit of a disappointment after all the greatness. It was good but different then what I expected based on the menu description.
Max Baatsen (Max Motorcyclist) - 3 weeks ago
The steaks were awesome for the price. Very reasonably priced for the quality and quantity.
Service was prompt and attentive.
The place was a tad dated but that lent to its charm.
The only negative was that the restaurant did not accept credit card. I will not have a business dinner here if I can’t charge to my work credit card.

What an experience!
Came here for dinner with friends. Steaks were aged and well prepared, starters were tasty, and the service was amazing. Highly recommended if you enjoy a quiet meal with high quality ingredients.

Table booking through google maps is super easy! The guys are polite and welcoming, food is tasty and service is efficient. They accepted only cash when I was there which was inconvenient, but it looked like it's a temporary problem and they told me before sitting down.
Pete I - 3 weeks ago
The service was fantastic, our host/waiter was wonderfully charming and saw to our every need. I really can't overstate how amazing the service was. And the food was magnificent, 3 of our party got steaks and we can all attest that it was some of the best steak you can get from a restaurant, especially for the cost; the prices were fair and worth every Euro for the quality you're getting. Part of me wants to go back already.

I was looking for a good brick oven, thin crust, pizza. This place had an extra bonus. They had one made with truffle oil. They have indoor and outdoor seating and have a full bar. The place has dim lighting and good music. The bathrooms are located in the downstairs. It got busy very fast when they opened up at 5 PM and the service was still exceptional.
There’s a plaque on the table with a QR code. You could download the restaurant menu into your phone for your convenience.
It was a great pleasure to celebrate and have a happy birthday with Dan and his wife, Helen.

I stopped by this restaurant based on a recommendation from my hotel. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was wonderful. They came to the table faster than your typical Eastern European restaurant, they accommodated my dietary needs(no cheese) and it tasted absolutely wonderful! I came back a second time, just to make sure the first visit wasn't a "fluke" and the second experience lived up to the expectations! When in Berlin, I will make it a point to visit the restaurant again. Also, location is a plus, as it is right next to Checkpoint Charlie!

Tucked away on a quiet street in the heart of Berlin is this delicious and authentic Italian restaurant. The Neapolitan style pizza was perfectly cooked and used fresh ingredients. This was the perfect spot to have a nice lunch and get away from the crowds.

Ishin has an incredible selection of fresh sushi for an amazing price. The fish was very fresh and we had a delicious meal. They have a happy hour for the combo sushi like seen in one of the photos for a great price. Most days it is until 16:00 but on Wednesdays and Weekends, it is all day. It is my first time seeing such thing and I think it is amazing. The service is quick. One small thing - the quality of the chopsticks could be better! Overall, an amazing place to have some great sushi!
Artem Bakatov - 3 months ago
SO SAD about the experience we had in Ishin, they have so much potential!! The place was really nice and the service was good too. BUT, is unbelievable that the main ingredient in sushi was SO poorly accomplished, the rice was HORRIBLE, tasted like the rice you eat with chicken, wasn't sticky at all, and the fish and seafood used wasn't at all fresh, the shrimp and mackerel tasted rotten... almost vomited... and, hopefully the manager will read this, some variation in the rolls please! all of them were basically the same, wth with the cucumber obsession 🫣🫣
Rosario Guiñez - 3 months ago
For the price paid, quite decent.
You get 8 nigiris and 6 makis for 12€ during the happy hour: every Wednesday and Saturday whole day, other days - before 16:00.
They are functioning here since long time so the place might feel run down, but it’s fine and doesn’t impact the food.
Free matcha with water for every customer.
Cash only as well.

Very cozy atmosphere, delicious sushi (must try the one with shiitake and with the omelette), we caught the happy day, but it was Saturday night and it was crowded, with only 1 waitress. However, the food was prepared very fast!
Andrea Bozhilova - 7 months ago
the fish to rice ratio was very bad and the rice was very compactly pressed. the smoked salmon you can buy at the supermarket is thicker than what they served. i hope it was just a bad day, because they used to serve actual sushi. this was real bad.

Its a nice place, food was nice. I ordered warm Tapas: Octopus, Calamari and Sardellen.
Service was not so good, they looked very tired, demotivated. We were waiting for more than an hour for our food. It took also a while to get our desserts and they forgot to bring us one.
To speak German and English was also not so easy.

We ordered a number of tapas to try and they were all delicious! I had the Mango Time cocktail and it was really refreshing.

food was pretty good but gosh the service went downhill so fast. it was the same night as the marathon and they probably overbooked because the place was packed and we didn't get any attention outdoors. paella took longer than worth and asking 5 different people and times to pay gets to be frustrating

We had a quick meal after our walking tour and it was perfect! Wicked nice staff, great service and the food was amazing! I even asked to substitute the rice or fries on my dish for a baked potato and the waitress just smiled and nodded yes. If I was living in Berlin I would come here all the time! Thank you for an amazing meal!

We stopped into Johnny’s on the way to Topography of Terror because we needed to eat. We didn’t really know what to expect but the food is incredible. The menu is very unassuming but the flavor profile is incredible. I got the veggie burger and it is truly one of the best I have ever had. Definitely worth stopping in. The Johnny’s Bier is very good as well.

Amazing 10/10 the best place, good and costumer service…. I love the croquetas they are to die for

Craving “Dominican food” and visited Johnny’s Bar for dinner. The restaurant seems to be part of a hotel next door or something similar. The service was nice and the food was good. Honestly my expectations were high as a Dominican that pays 15€ (could be cheaper) for “La Bandera”, but is a good place to visit considering.
The menu is mix (not only Caribbean food) and croquetas were amazing.

Very nice orient restaurant. Not fancy, more for daily food, but really delicious, fresh food, falafel made at the moment, high quality ingredients, very kind service, interesting drinks and friendly atmosphere. One of the few places left where you can eat well for a decent price. Sandwiches are 6€ and a good portion, plates around 10€. Happy to be back, it has stayed consistently good over the years.
