A warm and friendly welcome at this stylish but homely hotel. The front desk staff were superb. Room faciliities were spot on and the location was great. Breakfast was good but a little slow. We will be back for sure.

A fantastic hotel, especially convenient if you have meetings at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. Its central location makes it an excellent base for exploring the area. The rooms feature the distinctive, stylish decor Malmaison is known for, adding to the charm of your stay. The full breakfast is absolutely worth it—delicious and satisfying. The staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive, making the overall experience even better. Highly recommended!

Had a lovely stay at Malmaison for my birthday. Lovely touches left in the room including balloons and two small cakes which were delicious. The room was nicely furnished, spacious and clean. Located in a quiet square close to the station which was convenient and our room had nice views of the square at the front of the hotel. Breakfast was delicious and staff were very friendly and professional. Would recommend for anyone visiting.

Very pleasant hotel,.easily accessible from Farringdon station. We had a standard room which was comfortable although a little stuffy even with the air con on. The duvet was a little too thick for my liking but the bed was comfy. Breakfast took a while to arrive but it was cooked to order. We appreciated the 12 o'clock check out time

The hotel is very nicely located, in a quite neighborhood and on a nice park. There are some food options in the area and it is 2 short blocks from the Elizabeth Line Farringdon stop. Some rooms are better than others however. The first room I was given had virtually no window. It was an interior room with the frosted window with no natural light. As I check in in the morning there were no other rooms available until later that evening. Victor at the front desk was super helpful and hospitable with finding me a new room and moving my luggage while I was out. The new room was great.

I was recommended St John’s, and it absolutely lived up to expectations. The space is interesting, with the bar area set in what looks like an old smokehouse, adding a bit of character. The restaurant itself is clean, white, and minimal, with a rustic touch that ties everything together. It’s simple but works well.
One of the standout features is the in-house bakery, which seems to handle all the desserts, and they do an incredible job.
The service was excellent. My server Callum was fantastic—friendly, helpful with the menu, and went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. He even spoke to head chef John, who then came out for a chat, which was a really nice surprise and made the night even more special.
The food itself was outstanding. Every dish was top quality, perfectly executed, and full of flavor. It’s clear why St John’s has a Michelin star and has kept it.
I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for incredible food in a relaxed and unpretentious setting. It’s well worth a visit!

Absolutely stunning restaurant! I was here recently and had some of the most fantastic food.
Firstly we were pleasantly greeted by a lovely gentleman (didn’t catch his name but he was super chatty and lovely). And we were seated right by the kitchen which was perfect! Loved seeing the chefs work, one of them was butchering a whole pig at one point - incredible!
The food was an easy 10/10. The bone marrow was easily the best dish we had, it’s obvious why they run out of this so quickly. The pork head and broth was so rich and delicious and we loved the lamb and the blood cake too. And how could I forget the Welsh rarebit. So rich and delicious. I want this again! And I’d go back just to have the bone marrow again and again.
Highly recommended.

I'm giving this 5 stars overall as the experience and concept were bit spot on. Great service, flexible when we decided to eat further mains and knowledgeable when it came to drinks. The food was not very precisely cooked/prepared (liver over, bacon dry without being crispy ,mussel salad watery) but they were quite busy. Overall 100% recommended. Treat yourself to the Madeline's - ethereal 😍

In a room of white so still,
Where linens drape and time stands still,
Plates arrive, a work of art,
Each a feast, a perfect start.
The menu shifts with each new day,
Check ahead, don’t lose your way.
The staff will guide if you’re unsure,
A dining haven, calm and pure.
For six we booked, a lucky find,
Weeks ahead, the stars aligned.
Crab and herring, bright and bold,
Flavors fresh and stories told.
Gurnard, golden, placed with care,
Pork cheek rich beyond compare.
Greens and potatoes on the side,
Simple joys that none denied.
Then dessert—a final cheer,
Honeycomb and sponge appear.
Sticky, sweet, and deeply spun,
Every bite a perfect one.
Steep the price, but worth it all,
A meal to hold, a night to call.
For here, the food alone will shine,
A masterpiece in every line.

A disappointing visit to what had been one of our favorite restaurants. The quality of the food at St. John has always been the foundation of our love for the institution, but it feels as though there isn’t the same care for the preparation as there has been in the past. The bone marrow was remarkably dry. The other dishes lacked any flavor. The only saving graces were the Welsh rarebit and the lemon tart.

For the price they charge, I would expect much better service.
We had a dinner for my anniversary. I specified that, when booked the table, however no one greeted us for our celebration. We had 6 course tasting menu. Food was ok, but not more than that. Despite being a French restaurant, I sensed a lot of middle-eastern notes in spices and sauces.
My wife did not touched the mushrooms, but no one asked her if she wants something else. I was almost running for the waitress to get the bill. After all that, 13.5% were included for the service fee.
Don’t understand how restaurant with such service gets a Michelin star. Very disappointed. I am sure there are better venues in London

The food was great overall, the starter was fake fois gras made using nut butter which was yummy and ethical. Haha. The main was roast duck and portion was generous. However the lemon dessert with curry cream inside was not nice.. the waitress said it was their signature dessert and they have been making it for 26 years... omg, lemon and curry combo was probably the worst thing I have tasted. But the cheese and bread round up the meal nicely.
Service was excellent and atmosphere was good. Price was definitely eye watering but overall experience was a pleasant one. We had a nice evening there.

First time visitor, had the vegetarian, 6 course menu, which was absolutely amazing.
Dish of the meal, was the stuffed courgette flowers.Came with the most amazing smoked bread, and that green sauce! Divine, never had a sauce as smooth as that. Overall the experience was nothing but excellent.
Staff were also very nice and talkative, explaining about the food, history of the restaurant and feelings of the chef. No rushing at all, atmosphere was amazing, we were actually the first people in for the evening so the place was completely empty and lovely. There was nice and relaxing background music.
Found the portion size to be a overall excellent (just a tinsy bit too much, but we tend to eat less than average) and you definitely will be fed after. As besides the courses there are other little bits and bobs.
Will be looking to return, though it is definitely several times above our usual price range for a meal out, the taste and experience was worth it for a very special occasion.

The food is very tasty. The chef is very classy but with some modern twist. The dining room is beautifully decorated. There is plenty of space between tables. The service is flawless- friendly, professional and efficient. The pace is very well controlled. The portion is surprisingly big! Would definitely recommend to everyone!Well worth the price!

Having googled "Michelin Starred French Restaurant in London" Club Gascon was one of the first options to pop-up. A quick sense-check of the reviews, it seemed worthy of a booking, but if I'm being honest, we were rather disappointed by our experience.
For complete transparency, this was our first time eating "classically" French fine-dining but having eaten at a number of other Michelin starred restaurants in the past - we had little reason to believe our evening would have been anything short of fantastic.
We ordered the 8 course tasting menu - both the "regular" and vegetarian options. None of the dishes we received were particularly memorable, with some flavour / texture combinations leaving us a bit perplexed. E.g. The squirrel terrine with hazelnuts, partridge leg / offal meat on a sugar tart.
But understanding that "taste" can often be subjective, I don't want to dwell on this... What particularly disappointed us was two-fold.
The attention to detail: Receiving a chipped wine glass, and having wine accidentally spilt onto our table and then not offered to be cleaned up. Not something we would typically focus on but when you're paying a premium, you expect a premium level of attention.
The perception that our servers' did not know what what was "in" the food. Whether this was an "off" night (Thursday), I'm not sure, and whilst perfectly pleasant, it often felt like we were trying to coax out of staff what had gone into our dishes... On a few occasions, our questions yielding a single ingredient response or a bemused look. In our view, the beauty of the upper tier of dining is the "experience" and "story-telling", for the staff to take you on a journey of what, how and where the food has been produced... Bringing to life what has put in front of you (figuratively speaking, of course!)
Finally, the presentation. The food was refined and well presented. The restaurant itself, however, was maybe more dated than we have come to expect, quintessentially looking like you would have expected a fine dining establishment to have looked in the 90s.
We are absolutely not in the habit of writing negative reviews for the sake of it but we feel like it is important to give an honest appraisal of our experience, for this to be viewed constructively and hopefully improved upon in the future.

Had drinks and dinner here last night. Only went downstairs so not sure what it’s like upstairs but was pleasant down stairs.
Service was really good. Polite and friendly barman.
Ordered a platter of wings and potato wedges etc. was pretty good for £29. Was enough to share for three.
Extra points for this place having a cute dog while I was there.

A cute little pub right next to farringdon. It's a bit pricey but the vibe makes up for it. The only big turn off is the lady on the top floor.
We asked her politely for an order to be refilled but she was rude to us for some unknown reason. We dropped the order and took the exit. Everything was great except that cranky girl on top.

The Shakespeare shares the same accolade as The Pregnant Man, Chancery Lane. They are both sat at 62 feet above mean sea level and are therefore the highest pubs in the City of London. A welcome pint after bagging the highest point in the city of London at ground level - the road intersection on High Holborn where Chancery Lane joins it.
Pub has a great selection of games and some nice beers.

🚇 Barbican
🍺 £6.70 Moretti
❤️ A brutalist Barbican boozer.
The Shakespeare sits on a corner of a crescent of shops and flats at the front end of the Golden Lane Estate EC1. The nearest Tube is Barbican which is only a two minute walk.
The Shakespeare was built in 1964 and is Grade II listed. The name is inspired by the Bard himself, who lived some hundred metres away throughout his time in London.
The is a one bar pub with a comedy club in the basement. The bar is set out in almost a “H” shape with the servery on the left hand side as you walk in. Even though this pub is traditionally decorated, due to the architecture of the building it does feel modern in here. The seating is a mix of elongated leatherette banquettes, a few poser tables and traditional tables and chairs. Around the walls are gold framed Elizabethan era repro portraits, mirrors and chalkboards with promotions.
The beer choice was a straightforward selection of keg beers and ciders. I opted for a Moretti, decent enough pint but a bit pricey for this lager. There is a simple eclectic food menu comprising of Burgers, pasta and Toasties, a Ham & Cheese Toastie cost £5.95.
I arrived around 4.30pm on a sunny Friday afternoon in July. The pub was fairly quiet as Fridays in the city are not as busy as they once was. There were a few punters sat inside, the majority were sat outside enjoying the summer sun and watching the world go by. The service here was excellent, the Guvnor is a bit of a character, he was jovial and set an upbeat tone.
@theshakespearebarbican is not the most handsome of boozers you’ll come across and almost has an estate pub feel. I enjoyed my visit here primarily due to the pub’s location and sitting outside watching the comings and goings around the Barbican. This pub is worth a look of you’re in the area.

A great pub with great atmosphere, comfy sofa/chairs, a piano, a resident cat- and most importantly has a few boardgames. So essentially you can always come here with your friends and play (for free might I add- unlike those commercial and expensive boardgame pubs)

The barmen were friendly. Happy hour cocktails (5-7pm) are valid when ordering the same drink.
The food menu was quite limited but from the options available, we chose tortellini and a beef burger - both were delicious.
Toilet facilities could be better.

Very nice place for a good selection of food and wine. Overall, the atmosphere is relaxed and the service is friendly and attentive. Had a very lovely Cornas wine from the northern Rhône region, chosen from their ‘not coming back’ wine list. Had a nice selection of small dishes, all very delicious. The dessert weren’t fantastic, but tasty nonetheless. Would absolutely be happy to come back!

Had the set lunch menu, which is good value for money. Good portion, and the food was ok. The waiting staff are nice and attentive however the kitchen is too slow, it took ages for our starters and mains to be served.

We went here for a friends 30th birthday and it was pretty good. The prawn starter was full of bursting flavours, and the pecan dessert was impeccable.

We had lunch yesterday and it was frankly pretty poor; we waited 28 minutes for our mains and the irony is his medium rare steak arrived medium well and my salmon was likewise overcooked and bland.
I realise the restaurant was busy and the kitchen is small but even full there are not that many covers.
Service was best described as adequate, sorry folks normally I really like Vinoteca but this was bang average and that’s being kind.

My favourite place for a celebratory meal: good (but not arty) food and an amazing range of wines, with great service. All the staff are kind and attentive -- to the customers, yes, but also to each other. Very comfortable, my wife and I feel at home here, which is why we've been here so many times over the last twenty years or so.

A completely different experience & very humbled with the experience.
How it felt to be blind for a couple hours, eating food and drinking while trying to figure out what I was eating with people on other tables chatting away.
Your phones & any smart devices that give light are taken away and stored in a safe locker on arrival and you’re seated to have a drink before the experience begins.
Personally I loved the experience as was worth every penny of it.
Polite staff all round.
Such a dope experience in my eyes & i would and will definitely be trying it again.
I spent around £180 something as we went for the 3 course meal chefs surprise & a few glasses of wine.
The food was I say 3/5, it wasn’t crazy delicious. Starter and desert for me was the best, main was good.
We all know wine boosts up everything.
Thank you again for this humbling experience.
What I can say is that I’ve eaten and EATENNNNN there 🤭

Fun, unique experience. The food was fine (think wedding / conference food) but it’s definitely enjoyable when you’re eating it in the pitch black and trying to guess what everything is!
A special shout out to our server, Kate, who really elevated the whole experience for us. She really made us feel at ease and was totally exceptional.

A very surreal and exceptionally unique food experience! My party were quickly welcomed into the waiting area where we managed to place our order for our drinks prior to entering the pitch black restaurant area. At first, it’s quite an adjustment to have one of your senses completely stripped however felt liberating once you were seated and comfortable. Our server Courtney was incredibly attentive and friendly to us and ensured we knew what was where on the table and made the experience that much more pleasant. Dietary requirements were catered for incredibly as noted in the quality of food, and my party had great fun trying to guess the flavour profiles of what we could be eating! Cutlery was available though due to the nature of the dining experience, fingers are much more preferable so prepare to get a bit messy! At the end, it was revealed what we had eaten which was very insightful. Highly recommend to try this at least once!

Having wanted to visit for years, Dans Le Noir turned out to be an incredible, new experience I enjoyed with friends as part of my 30th birthday celebrations.
Our Restaurant Guide- Aliya- was so welcoming and bubbly; it felt like she was genuinely having fun being with us.
Though I won’t talk about the food, it was all delectable. I started off using cutlery…but always relied on my fingers to ensure a clear plate at the end of each course!
Dining in pitch black was very surreal: I liked having to rely on touch, smell and sound throughout the meal.

Great atmosphere and service, food was average.
You’re welcomed to a bar area where you wait to be lead to the restaurant. Once upstairs, you’re carefully led inside a pitch black room and to your seat, by a waitress.
Interesting experience trying to guess what you’re eating - definitely very alien and unsettling for the first few moments. But once settled, your senses are definitely heightened!
Quite a short meal, as felt rushed to leave when we weren’t done yet, would have been nice to have stayed in the restaurant slightly longer.

With the historic 140 year old Smithfield Market as its famous neighbour, this is the perfect setting for the any occasion whether you are thinking of a small or large, casual or grander gathering. The food was excellent, especially the starters. You could tell they source quality ingredients from curated suppliers.
We were on a date, but there was a large group dining and a farewell at the same time, yet the layout of the space meant that we each had our own space and not get bothered by ambient noiseI The rooftop bar and restaurant had the most perfect views to St Pauls and the City. The set menu keeps things simple and there is something for everyone, without blowing the budget too

Went for the extremely tasty Christmas set menu, choosing the vegetarian options. Started with a glass of bubbly on the terrace with a view of St Paul's then inside for all three courses which were delicious and the services was without fault! Would recommend with friends or a date for guaranteed tasty food. The wine was also an excellent crisp white, if that's what you're into.

STEAK PLEASE 🥩✨
📍 Farringdon, London
⭐️ 5/5
💸 £££
🍴 If you're after the best #steak in London, look no further than The Grill at @thisissmiths—located in Smithfield, the historic heart of UK butchery. Head Chef Tim Dela Cruz has crafted a classic yet creative menu, making it the ultimate spot for a steak night. We ordered the 7oz #Fillet steak with bone marrow butter and the 9oz #Sirloin with peppercorn sauce—both were juicy, tender, and packed with flavour 🥩👌 The sides were just as standout: triple-cooked chips and the rich, comforting braised ox cheek with onion gravy mash (my new obsession!). To pair with the meal, we chose a 2022 Chardonnay, Mâcon-Villages. And don’t skip dessert! The Coconut #pannacotta with mango & lime and the Dark #chocolate delice with salted caramel were the ideal sweet finish. What a date night! 🍷✨

We attended a private function so it was only our guests there. It's a lovely venue, spacious with plenty of seating. There's also an upstairs area with a glass balcony that overlooks the downstairs. Stylishly decorated.

Held a private event here (wedding). It was so much fun! Food was great, staff incredible and it was all reasonably priced. We had a wine tasting before which was much appreciated (thanks, Daphne!)

We got married here in June 2023 and couldn't be happier with our venue choice.
The entire planning process was very smooth due to the very helpful Matilda who was a huge help in making sure our wedding planning was stress-free and our day was perfect.
The venue is the perfect location for a London wedding as the streets are very quiet at the weekends meaning our guests could all enjoy drinks outside and we could get some fantastic photos without hardly anyone around at all.
The food was a stand out part of our day, with countless guests telling us it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding! The menu options are great and we could not fault the food at all.
Overall we had a great experience at Balfour St Barts and could not recommend it enough as a wedding venue!

We went for dinner and drinks. The staff were lovely and wine was excellent (as expected, as we had previously visited the winery and knew the Balfour wine was great!). However, unfortunately there wasn’t much of an atmosphere as it was the first week in January and assume it’s quieter than usual, and the food was cold and overcooked at the same time. A real shame as I think the location, staff and wine make it fantastic, but just missing the atmosphere and good food. It was also very expensive for what we got!
