Service was pretty rigid when it came to moving rooms around in a corporate booking. They wanted permission from someone in the company to edit the booking but wouldn't tell us who, so had to just book extra rooms. Also the sink was blocked in the room I stayed in. Near the barbican though which is a nice building

Took advantage of their 50% off Steak Night on Thursdays and it was one of the best steaks I've ever eaten.
Very tender fillet, beautifully cooked and presented.
Shame the place wasn't busier as people are clearly missing out on a great meal.
Service was faultless as well.

I’m a regular visitor to London for work and have stayed a a full range of hotels in terms of quality.
I was really looking forward to this stay, having stayed in a number of Malmaison hotels over the years.
I’ve got to start with the positives. The hotel itself overlooks the Charter House and it’s iconic leafy green. The area is close enough to be in the heart of the action but really feels very peaceful.
The room I went for was fairly standard for the Malmaison experience, comfy bed, free tea and coffee and premium sky tv channels on the in room TV, as you’d expect at this price point.
The most disappointing element of the experience is as the service. Most staff I encountered seemed disinterested. This really surprised me given previous experiences with this brand.
I’d called a few days in advance and spoken to someone describing themselves as a manager about an early check in, as I had a fairly short turn around time for my evening plans and the train I’d planned to take was cancelled, leading to me needing to take an earlier one. The ask was 45 minutes early rather than several hours.
Despite having asked and been assured it would be possible in advance, when I arrived at the hotel it wasn’t. The result was that I was late. Not the end of the world but annoying, especially from a chain known for its service.
What was also inconvenient was the in room shower. Weak and luke warm at best. No amount of tinkering could alter the temperature or pressure in any way. Again as a premium chain, these are the basics.
Overall, my take on this hotel is that it’s a nice, quiet and well positioned stay but could do with investing some time in terms of making sure the basics are covered, if they are to attract customers at this price point

We went to Malmaison for an evening meal on our first night in London. We both had the fillet steak and I can honestly say it was the best I have ever had and we eat out regularly in nice steak houses. The service was alsp excellent. There was also a half price deal on which was a bonus but would been happy paying full price. Thank you for a lovely meal and fabulous service.

Absolutely stunning restaurant! I was here recently and had some of the most fantastic food.
Firstly we were pleasantly greeted by a lovely gentleman (didn’t catch his name but he was super chatty and lovely). And we were seated right by the kitchen which was perfect! Loved seeing the chefs work, one of them was butchering a whole pig at one point - incredible!
The food was an easy 10/10. The bone marrow was easily the best dish we had, it’s obvious why they run out of this so quickly. The pork head and broth was so rich and delicious and we loved the lamb and the blood cake too. And how could I forget the Welsh rarebit. So rich and delicious. I want this again! And I’d go back just to have the bone marrow again and again.
Highly recommended.

Came for lunch on a Friday, the restaurant and bar area were both busy.
The food was excellent, with the standouts being the bone marrow starter and honeycomb ice cream for dessert.
The service was friendly without being overbearing. Prices were reasonable given the quality of food
Can’t wait to visit again!

Travelled from Thailand to this legendary establishment in 2022. I'm a big fan of Anthony Bourdain's No reservation and this place is on my bucket list. The staffs were lovely and the food was execptional. Simple yet elegance no frills British cuisine. Highly recommended.

Second visit this year and it was as good as the first time. I'd pass on the famous bone marrow starter next time - it's hit and miss as to whether you actually get any marrow but what you do get is delicious. The potted beef was as great as I remember it.
Pheasant and Trotter pie was excellent as was the Hake and the Welsh Rarebit. All washed down with a bottle of St John Macon. Finished with fresh madeleines and a Fergroni. If you're used to overly attentive service then dont expect that here. The service is good but a few more smiles would not go amiss. We'll be back next time we're in London.

Fantastic meal and exceptional service from a London institution. Quality British fare at its finest - great ingredients and smart twists on dishes classic and modern.
Rustic settings and attentive wait staff. Massive wine & drinks list as well to complement the food.

The food was great overall, the starter was fake fois gras made using nut butter which was yummy and ethical. Haha. The main was roast duck and portion was generous. However the lemon dessert with curry cream inside was not nice.. the waitress said it was their signature dessert and they have been making it for 26 years... omg, lemon and curry combo was probably the worst thing I have tasted. But the cheese and bread round up the meal nicely.
Service was excellent and atmosphere was good. Price was definitely eye watering but overall experience was a pleasant one. We had a nice evening there.

Club Gascon is the perfect mix of chic, modern, and fun! It delivers a Michelin-starred experience that goes above and beyond. The food is amazing, with top-notch ingredients, perfect flavors, and flawless technique, all showcasing chef Pascal Aussignac's unique flair. Plus, it's a great bang for your buck. We had a fabulous time and totally recommend Club Gascon!

We had all the dishes on the 3 course summer menu. Every one was superb with the stand outs being the feta cheese, the duck and the Gurnard. Oh and dont forget the girolle desert !!

Wow! An absolutely incredible food and wine experience. The staff are so knowledgeable about all the dishes and ingredients, we felt really well looked after and it really was a culinary journey that we were taken on. I cannot recommend Club Gascon enough. We went for the 8 course taster menu with wine pairing. The flavours and innovation was mind blowing. It’s an absolute must when visiting london and the Michelin star is very very well deserved.

Food was very disappointing, lack of seasoning, very bland. Maybe my palette is not sophisticated enough. On top of that my friend who got smoked mackerel got food poisoning. Which completely ruined our plans for the next day.

The Sunday roast looks better than it tastes unfortunately. Tried to fit too much on the small plate. The potatoes were rubbery, veg was watery and everything was under seasoned. Even the beef was tough. Only decent part was the Yorkshire pudding. Really disappointed for 20 quid.

The Shakespeare shares the same accolade as The Pregnant Man, Chancery Lane. They are both sat at 62 feet above mean sea level and are therefore the highest pubs in the City of London. A welcome pint after bagging the highest point in the city of London at ground level - the road intersection on High Holborn where Chancery Lane joins it.
Pub has a great selection of games and some nice beers.

A large, modern pub, but with several different sections. It was quiet on the Saturday evening that I went, so I would say a good place for a quiet pint and maybe a neighbourhood pub. A reasonable selection of beers.
Peter Claydon - 6 months ago
A great pub with great atmosphere, comfy sofa/chairs, a piano, a resident cat- and most importantly has a few boardgames. So essentially you can always come here with your friends and play (for free might I add- unlike those commercial and expensive boardgame pubs)

🚇 Barbican
🍺 £6.70 Moretti
❤️ A brutalist Barbican boozer.
The Shakespeare sits on a corner of a crescent of shops and flats at the front end of the Golden Lane Estate EC1. The nearest Tube is Barbican which is only a two minute walk.
The Shakespeare was built in 1964 and is Grade II listed. The name is inspired by the Bard himself, who lived some hundred metres away throughout his time in London.
The is a one bar pub with a comedy club in the basement. The bar is set out in almost a “H” shape with the servery on the left hand side as you walk in. Even though this pub is traditionally decorated, due to the architecture of the building it does feel modern in here. The seating is a mix of elongated leatherette banquettes, a few poser tables and traditional tables and chairs. Around the walls are gold framed Elizabethan era repro portraits, mirrors and chalkboards with promotions.
The beer choice was a straightforward selection of keg beers and ciders. I opted for a Moretti, decent enough pint but a bit pricey for this lager. There is a simple eclectic food menu comprising of Burgers, pasta and Toasties, a Ham & Cheese Toastie cost £5.95.
I arrived around 4.30pm on a sunny Friday afternoon in July. The pub was fairly quiet as Fridays in the city are not as busy as they once was. There were a few punters sat inside, the majority were sat outside enjoying the summer sun and watching the world go by. The service here was excellent, the Guvnor is a bit of a character, he was jovial and set an upbeat tone.
@theshakespearebarbican is not the most handsome of boozers you’ll come across and almost has an estate pub feel. I enjoyed my visit here primarily due to the pub’s location and sitting outside watching the comings and goings around the Barbican. This pub is worth a look of you’re in the area.

I had lunch with my daughter at Vinoteca Farringdon. I chose the Cauliflower soup with croutons for my starter. The waitress took the knife and fork away when she brought my soup and left the dessert spoon. I requested a soup spoon, so she brought a serving spoon. I explained I wanted a soup spoon, not a serving spoon. It appears they do not have soup spoons. I do not like eating soup with a dessert spoon.
The Cauliflower soup was delicious and filling 😋
The Sea Bass, my daughter, had for main course was well presented.
I also enjoyed the chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert.

Had a very nice meal with my team here. The environment is very nice and relaxed. The doors to the outside were open because it was a very warm day.
The food was very nice, I had a steak and was amazing. Unfortunately I didn't like that there were so many chips on my plate, I wish there were more greens, or vegetables instead of so many chips.
The horseradish sauce with the dish was very tasty.
I finished my meal with the Moscatel de Setubal and truffles and it was amazing, I would definitely recommend it.
I was very happy with the meal, and the full team enjoyed the restaurant also. Great and quick service. Will definitely return.

Nice and cosy place. We enjoyed the dinner and the food was delicious. The lemon chicken was so soft and yummy. The service was a bit slow though and we had to wait for some time to order and be served. It was a busy evening!

We had dinner there last Friday night and the food was tasty but the portions were ridiculous (small...). One starter of watermelon with 6 olives was ridiculously small for 9£ and the glass of wine very expensive for a small glass... We had a very very light dinner, only 1 dessert to share (tiny!!!), one starter to share and paid 48£ p/p.... The vibe was good and staff nice, but we won't repeat...

Went there for a quick bite and drink on a Saturday afternoon. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I was a bit hesitant about this place, considering that they have a few locations, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was nicely cooked and well seasoned. The wine selection is nice, with some interesting and unusual wines. The place was laid back and not pretentious.

A completely different experience & very humbled with the experience.
How it felt to be blind for a couple hours, eating food and drinking while trying to figure out what I was eating with people on other tables chatting away.
Your phones & any smart devices that give light are taken away and stored in a safe locker on arrival and you’re seated to have a drink before the experience begins.
Personally I loved the experience as was worth every penny of it.
Polite staff all round.
Such a dope experience in my eyes & i would and will definitely be trying it again.
I spent around £180 something as we went for the 3 course meal chefs surprise & a few glasses of wine.
The food was I say 3/5, it wasn’t crazy delicious. Starter and desert for me was the best, main was good.
We all know wine boosts up everything.
Thank you again for this humbling experience.

The experience is unique! It's wonderful to experience what visually impaired people do every day. For a moment you switch sides and have them guide you entirely into a word they are familiar with.
The food itself is average. I would have enjoyed something more uncommon or harder to guess.
Michael, our waiter was more than exceptional! He makes you feel completely comfortable and protected, so polite and willing to go the extra mile.
Service downstairs could improve, they were a bit slow and not the kindest. They also forgot to remove the digital watch of our neighbours, which certainly impacted the experience.
Diego F Medina - 2 weeks ago
Great atmosphere and service, food was average.
You’re welcomed to a bar area where you wait to be lead to the restaurant. Once upstairs, you’re carefully led inside a pitch black room and to your seat, by a waitress.
Interesting experience trying to guess what you’re eating - definitely very alien and unsettling for the first few moments. But once settled, your senses are definitely heightened!
Quite a short meal, as felt rushed to leave when we weren’t done yet, would have been nice to have stayed in the restaurant slightly longer.

One of the best experiences I’ve ever done! No form of light is allowed into the dining area so they take your phone etc. & place it into a locker. I love the concept of this restaurant so much & I had one of the best conversations ever because you literally can’t do anything else having no phone or anything, super refreshing! The staff are all amazing & the food was actually really good. They accidentally broke my sunglasses & knocked the price off the bill, you can’t be mad at that! A super unique 11/10 experience - do it!

In London, we went to the restaurant Dans le Noir? Inside, it's pitch dark, and guests aren't told in advance what they'll be served. Not being able to see the food makes quite a difference, and we had a hard time figuring out what was on our plates, although not completely. To avoid spoiling the experience for you, I won't reveal what we had – we got to see pictures of the food at the end. I absolutely recommend this place, not least to gain insight into the challenges that blind people face and hopefully to develop more empathy.

Went for the extremely tasty Christmas set menu, choosing the vegetarian options. Started with a glass of bubbly on the terrace with a view of St Paul's then inside for all three courses which were delicious and the services was without fault! Would recommend with friends or a date for guaranteed tasty food. The wine was also an excellent crisp white, if that's what you're into.

We originally booked the bar menu, but when we arrived we decided to eat at the first floor 'The Grill' as it was much more peaceful. We're so glad we did! The steak was excellent and I've been to a lot of steak spots. The fillet was tender and flavourful, it came with a tasty beef bernaise sauce and the oxcheek mash potato side is a must!! We also got the black gateau desert and virgin mary cocktail and couldn't fault a thing. Our server Alex was lovely. Would definitely come back! And the view from the top floor was lovely for us to take a quick look after. 10/10 all round!

Had a lovely solo meal at the Grill at Smiths this evening. Went with the artichoke velouté to start and the guinea fowl for main, great seasonal options brimming with flavour and a marvelous, thoughtful mix of textures.
Served by Alex, who was attentive and knowledgeable. The wine list was also pleasingly varied, whether you're going for the meatier options or something lighter.
Keen to try the other floors, but would happily visit the grill again too. Great location just behind Farringdon station too.

Went here for pizza and a catch up, sadly we didn't stay for food as the music was oppressively loud. Really not what we were expecting.
On the positive, the beer and service was great. For a different occasion it might be good.

The White Bear is a great old-fashioned pub with aged decor such as tiles, wooden floors, panelling, etc. and architecture being retained and providing an excellent atmosphere. Pizzas are freshly made, and there is a good selection of beers available. The more local beers, such as the White Bear lager, are very reasonably priced, but the premium beers cost the same as other London pubs.

Ah, the White Bear Pub in London. One of the quintessential joys of visiting the capital is stumbling upon these small, charming pubs—an experience rarely matched in other parts of the country.
Nestled in a cozy corner, the White Bear is a haven of friendly yet efficient service. By the time you're on your second, third, or even fifth round, the staff not only remember your drink but have it ready with a smile. The tables outside are often filled with business folk who look like they've been marinating there for hours, basking in the pub's convivial atmosphere.
The beer selection? Simply superb. Whether you're a fan of a crisp lager or a hearty ale, the White Bear has you covered. It's one of those rare gems that make London pub-hopping such a delightful adventure. If you haven't been, go. If you have, go again. The White Bear is, quite simply, great.

Really tasty pizza’s and the price during lunch hour is unbeatable. Staff were nice and helpful. Drinks were nice and cold. The only thing and I appreciate it’s not easy to sort is the pub was hot but it was a warm day and I appreciated they had the door open for air ventilation but it may be even hotter in peak summer days.

🚇Farringdon
🍺 £6.80 Mahou
❤️ A simple but stunning traditional boozer.
.
The White Bear is located close to Smithfield Market on the border between Farringdon and Clerkenwell. The nearest Tube is Farringdon which is just a five minute walk away.
.
There has been a pub on the site for centuries, the current property was rebuilt in 1899 by the City of London Brewery Co. and suffered bomb damage in the second world war.
.
This is a one bar boozer which is traditionally decorated with some stunning features. The servery is on the left hand-side and has some intricately carved woodwork on the backbar. The centrepiece here is the beautiful Victorian fireplace which is surrounded by fabulous glazed tiles. The walls are a mix of wood panels, glossy embossed wallpaper and tiled also. The seating is a mix of wood benches around Britannia tables, stools around poser tables plus traditional tables and chairs.
.
The beer line up was all keg and had a mix of mainstream and craft options. I opted for a pint of Mahou, my pint was superb and price point was above average. The Food menu is all about Pizza, Charcuterie and Cheese plates. A 12” pizza costs around £12, there are lunchtime pizza deals for £4, if you fancy sharing a Charcuterie Board, it’s £25.
.
I visited mid-afternoon on a Friday and the pub was quiet. There were a few punters sat outside enjoying the summer sun plus a regular sat at the bar offloading his day to one of the staff behind the ramp. The soundtrack was an eclectic mix of rock and hip hop which wasn’t too loud and set a pleasant backdrop. The service was great, the two staff on duty were very welcoming and courteous.
.
The @whitebear.farringdon has had a rough ride in recent years and remained closed for some time, It was great to see this boozer back open and trading again. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here, the beer was on point, the decor is fantastic and you’ll be well looked after. Get this one on your list.

We got married here in June 2023 and couldn't be happier with our venue choice.
The entire planning process was very smooth due to the very helpful Matilda who was a huge help in making sure our wedding planning was stress-free and our day was perfect.
The venue is the perfect location for a London wedding as the streets are very quiet at the weekends meaning our guests could all enjoy drinks outside and we could get some fantastic photos without hardly anyone around at all.
The food was a stand out part of our day, with countless guests telling us it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding! The menu options are great and we could not fault the food at all.
Overall we had a great experience at Balfour St Barts and could not recommend it enough as a wedding venue!
