White Rock Beach and Promenade

White Rock Beach Features a Long Promenade and Many Quaint Restaurants and Gift Shops

Located just above the Canada-US border the City of White Rock slopes steeply down to Semiahmoo Bay in the Georgia Strait. Well away from the north shore mountains, White Rock receives less rainfall that Vancouver. It is named after a large granite boulder that was left on the beach after the retreat of the last ice-age. The rock used to be kept white by the droppings of seabirds, but is now kept freshly painted by the city.

A trip to White Rock can easily fill the better part of a day. It will take you approximately one hour to get there from Bridgeport SkyTrain Station. When you arrive you can enjoy a stroll along the 2 kilometer promenade and out onto the ½ kilometer long pier for some great views across the water and back towards the hillside homes of White Rock. Take some time to explore the White Rock Museum located in the historic 1913 railroad station near the pier (check their website for hours). Later you can cross the road and browse through the many quaint specialty and gift stores that parallel the beach. For lunch or dinner you will probably find it hard to choose from among the many great places to eat across from the beach.
