Queen Elizabeth Theatre and the Vancouver Playhouse
The Queen Elizabeth Theatre and the adjoining smaller Vancouver Playhouse have hosted music and drama in Vancouver since 1959
The Queen Elizabeth Theatre and the adjoining Vancouver Playhouse are two of three theatres operated by the city of Vancouver. Originally built in 1959 the theatres have been updated and renovated several times over the years.
When it first opened, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre was home to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, which now performs at the Orpheum Theatre. The Queen Elizabeth Theatre is currently home to the Vancouver Opera and Ballet BC, but also hosts many other music, dance and drama programs throughout the year.
The theatre has seating for over 2900. The smaller adjoining Vancouver Playhouse has seating for 688 guests and is home to Playhouse Theatre Company, Friends of Chamber Music, Vancouver Recital Society and DanceHouse.
