PNE Playland and the Pacific National Exhibition
The PNE Playland and the Pacific National Exhibition is a longstanding and fun filled annual event in Vancouver
The Pacific National Exhibition located in Hastings Park has been a popular Vancouver tradition providing fun and entertainment to all ages for 100 years.
Commonly refered to as the PNE, the annual 17 day fair includes commercial and agricultural exhibits and displays, performances by popular entertainers, nightly fireworks, tours of the PNE prize home, all kinds of fast food and an amusement park. One of the highlights of Playland is the famous wooden rollercoaster originally built in 1958. While not the highest or fastest of roller coasters it's first drop and tight turns make it a very thrilling ride. Playland also has a newer corkscrew coaster along with many other rides from extreme thrillers to rides for young children. The midway features about 20 different games.
The PNE was once much larger with many more buildings. In 1998 many of the buildings were demolished and a substantial portion of the grounds were returned to parkland, however the annual fair still thrives and now has a 'country fair' feel to it.
The fair starts two weeks before Labour Day weekend and runs through Labour Day. Playland opens on weekends beginning in late April and is open daily throughout the Summer. For exact dates and hours and admission charges see Pacific National Exhibition.
