Metropolis at Metrotown
Canada's second largest shopping mall, Metropolis at Metrotown is conveniently connected to Metrotown Station by a covered walkway
Metropolis at Metrotown is the largest shopping mall in British Columbia and the 2nd largest in all of Canada. Formerly known as Metrotown Center this mall is the home to 450 stores and services.
Extremely convenient to public transit, it is joined to Metrotown SkyTrain Station on the Expo line by a covered walkway and is also the location of the Metrotown Transit Exchange one of the largest bus loops in Burnaby. Metrotown first opened in 1986, the same year that Vancouver's first SkyTrain opened. The SkyTrain Station proved to be a major catalyst for development in the area and the entire surrounding neighborhood has come to be called Metrotown.
Major stores at Metropolis include Sears, The Bay, Zellers, Winners HomeSense, Home Outfitters, Chapters, Real Canadian Superstore, T & T Supermarket, and a Famous Players SilverCity Theatre. The mall's Food Court is the largest in Western Canada.
Metropolis at Metrotown is also right next to Station Square which features an additional 35 stores including Future Shop, Save-On-Foods and Famous Players Theatres as well as Crystal Mall, an Asian themed Mall with another 200 stores resulting in a mega shopping district of nearly 700 stores. There is also a Holiday Inn Express Hotel at the Mall offering moderately priced accommodations just steps from SkyTrain and a major bus loop.
