Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden is home to the famous New York Rangers

Opened in 1968, the present day Madison Square Garden, often just called The Garden, is the fourth incarnation of this world famous arena. The first arena of this name in New York, opened way back in 1879 and took it's name from it's Madison Avenue location in Manhattan. It had seating for up to 10,000 spectators. The present day venue has seating for 5,600 to nearly 20,000 depending on the event. It is built right on top of Pennsylvania Station. The Garden underwent a major 200 million dollar renovation in 1991 and is currently in the process of undergoing an 850 million dollar renovation.

Madison Square Gardens is the home of the New York Rangers NHL hockey team and the New York Knicks and New York Liberty basketball teams. It also hosts college basketball, tennis, boxing, wrestling and many other world class sporting events.

In addition to major sporting events, Madison Square Gardens presents many big name concerts and a number of theatrical presentations. It is in fact the 3rd busiest venue in the world for music events based on the number of tickets sold.
