Chelsea

Chelsea is a quaint neighbourhood of pre-war buildings, brownstones, tree-lined streets, along with chic art galleries, bars and restaurants

Mostly residential, Chelsea includes the area west of 5th Avenue from 14th Street to 30th Street. A quaint neighbourhood known for its pre-war building, brownstones, tree-lined streets, there are an abundance of chic art galleries, bars and restaurants to discover. There are many buildings of historical and architectural significance in the Chelsea Historic District from 9th to 10th Avenue between 20th and 21st street and on historic Cushman's Row including the famous Chelsea Hotel.

Within Chelsea, the Meatpacking District (14th Street and Ninth Avenue) with its posh nightclubs and high-end clothing stores is the place to see and be seen. The Flower District (6th Avenue from mid-20s to 30th Street) is a mecca for green-thumbs and the Antique District (23rd to 26th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue) has some of the top antique stores in the city and on weekends flea markets abound with bargains.

Sporting types can get their fix at the many facilities in Hudson River Park, stroll along the High Line or the Chelsea Piers Sports and Entertainment Complex features indoor lacrosse and soccer, basketball, rock climbing walls, bowling lanes, golf club, multi-story driving range and two year-round ice skating rinks. For a more subdued afternoon, Chelsea Markets is a foodie's dream with an eclectic assortment of bakers, butchers, grocers, cafés and retail shops.
