Sadler's Wells Theatre

Sadler's Wells Theatre is major London dance venue

The Sadler's Wells Theatre has a history going back over 300 years to 1683 at the same location. The current theatre, which opened in 1998 is the sixth theatre to be built on the site and under the same name.

The current theatre has a 1500 seat auditorium and the smaller Lilian Baylis Studio. It is considered to be one of the top dance venues and production theatres in the United Kingdom.

The theatre began with the opening of a "Musick House" by Richard Sadler in 1683. A well was rediscovered on the site that had water thought to possess medicinal qualities and thus the name Sadler's Wells. The theatre has an extensive history that goes beyond the scope of this site, but you can read about it further on the Sadler's Wells Theatre History page.

The Sadler's Wells Theatre presents audiences with a wide variety of dance performances including contemporary, tango, hip hop, flamenco and more.
