Harrods

Harrods is arguably one of the worlds most renowned department stores.

A London institution, Harrods first opened at it's present location with three employees. It grew rapidly, employing a staff of 100 by 1880. After a disastrous fire destroyed the store in 1883, the present building was built.

In 1898 Harrods introduced Englands's first escalator and offered nervous patrons a brandy at the top.

Today Harrods features over 330 departments in over 1,000,000 square feet of retail space making it the largest individual store in the United Kingdom. Most of the merchandise is upscale and designer with corresponding prices - not a store for penny pinching.

Harrods aims to provide all shoppers with a pleasant experience and does have a dress code to try and facilitate this. Essentially this means no entry without appropriate footwear and clean clothing. Clothing with offensive slogans or images is not allowed.

There is an amazing choice of restaurants within the store - 26 in total ranging from quick snacks and deserts all the way up to fine dining.

Harrods is open daily from 9 am to 9 pm except 11:30 - 6 pm on Sundays.
